In a city full of thriving run clubs, one is putting a sweet spin on early miles. Meet Cookie Crew Run Club, a Houston-based group that’s redefining how runners start their week. As part of Houston Runner’s new monthly series, Run Club Rundown, we’re spotlighting the diverse running clubs that make Houston move, and Cookie Crew kicks it off.
The idea started small, sparked by a love of movement and dessert. “Cookie Crew got started when my friend Tasfia showed me Tiny’s Milk & Cookies,” says founder Jackson Keefer. “We were already doing small group runs, and I noticed there weren’t many morning group runs during the week. I suggested we make a run club from there.”
But Cookie Crew isn’t just about cookies. What sets this club apart is its Monday morning meetups. While most runners are still recovering from their weekend long runs, Cookie Crew is already hitting the pavement. “We like to start on a Monday morning, which I know a lot of people struggle with,” Keefer says. “It lets people get their week started off right.”
The club has quickly become known for its inclusive, low-pressure vibe. “What I love about Cookie Crew is we attract all different types of runners,” Keefer says. The energy at the runs strikes a balance: “It’s a good mixture of chill and laid-back, but also fun and energetic,” he explains.
In addition to their weekly Monday meetups, Cookie Crew hosts a signature Saturday run once a month, often with a fun twist. And if a holiday falls on a Monday? You can bet the crew is planning something festive. The goal is to keep running lighthearted, social, and something to look forward to, especially for those who might dread the start of the workweek.
