Houston Running June 20 – 21 Weekend Recap: Stars, Stripes, and Fast Times

Three events, tons of standout performances, and countless miles logged for another active weekend in the Houston running community. The Stars and Stripes Half Marathon, No Label Brewing 1st Street Beer Run, and ZFT Run Club’s anniversary celebration brought runners together.

The biggest race of the weekend was the Stars and Stripes Half Marathon, where Styve Luu delivered an impressive victory in the men’s half marathon, crossing the line in 1:08:48. Nicklaus Heffernan was close behind in 1:09:01, while Allen Cabrera rounded out the top three. On the women’s side, Bethany Leavens earned the win in 1:38:49, holding off Riya Ahir and Madeleine Lagarce in a tightly contested race.

The 10K races also featured several standout performances. Osman Yuzguc led the men’s field with a winning time of 36:57, while Jenna Robinson claimed the women’s title in an impressive 40:35. The 5K winners were Derwin Graham (17:59) and Ariana Nguyen (21:01), both posting strong efforts on a warm summer morning.

Over in Katy, the No Label Brewing 1st Street Beer Run attracted a deep field of runners. Calum Neff captured the men’s title in a blazing 15:21, followed by Drew Bean and Garrett Grissim. Lauren Stroud continued her strong racing season with a dominant women’s victory, stopping the clock at 17:35 and finishing nearly four minutes ahead of the runner-up.

Meanwhile, the ZFT Run Club celebrated nine years of community, friendship, and miles together with its annual Run-Walk-Crawl 5K. Luis Labra led the men’s race in 23:02, while Nicole Deterville edged Portia Deterville by less than a second to claim the women’s title in one of the closest finishes of the weekend.

With summer racing season in full swing, Houston runners continue to show up, compete hard, and support the local running community week after week.
