Houston Running August 22 – 23 Weekend Recap: Habanero Hundred Headlines the Weekend

The Habanero Hundred took center stage during the August 22-23 weekend, bringing ultrarunners from all over the country to the starting line for distances ranging from 10K to 135 miles.

Gabby De La Rosa led the inaugural overall 135-mile race in 30:12:15, while Jose Arismendez won the men’s race in 31:02:05. In the 100-mile event, Jared Rothlauf took the men’s title in 19:47:56, and Kelly Swanson was the top woman with a time of 20:08:37.

Angela Martinez-Robinson posted one of the weekend’s fastest performances, winning the women’s 100K in 13:46:24, while Trevor Vavreck won the men’s race in 14:10:46. Jackson Brougher led the men’s 50K in 5:40:32, and Katie Tyler won the women’s race in 6:07:42.

The Habanero Hundred also featured marathon, half marathon, 10K, and two relays, giving runners a wide range of options across the weekend.

Meanwhile, the Shark Week Showdown and the Run and Brews Fun Run delivered fast performances. In the Shark Week Showdown, Mateo Arjona won the men’s 10K in 42:05, while Bethany Leavens took the women’s title in 42:49. Grayson Borbidge won the men’s 5K in 18:22, just ahead of Nathan Campbell at 18:25, while Samantha Fryer led the women’s race in 21:10.
