As the Houston summer heat starts to settle in, the local racing calendar begins to thin out. June may not be packed wall-to-wall with races like the spring months, but there are still plenty of events for runners looking to stay motivated through the hotter mornings ahead.
Kicking things off on June 6 is the popular Lemonade Dash, part of the annual Summer Dash Series. The event has become a staple of the early summer running calendar, giving runners a chance to embrace the season with fast races and a festive atmosphere.
Later in the month, runners can head west for the No Label Brewing 1st Street 5K Beer Run on June 20. The race doubles as race number seven in the 2026 Texas 5K 6-Pack Beer Challenge, continuing one of the state’s most unique racing series. Combining community running with craft beer culture, the event has become a favorite for runners looking for a more relaxed and social race experience during the summer months.
For those still chasing longer distances despite the heat, the Houston Stars and Stripes Half Marathon, 10K & 5K in Humble offers one of the few opportunities to tackle a summer half marathon locally.
Closing out the month, the annual Independence Day 8K returns at the end of June to kick off a full week of Fourth of July running celebrations around Houston. The patriotic event traditionally draws a strong crowd and serves as the unofficial start of one of the busiest holiday racing weeks of the summer.
