Houston-area runners packed their calendars this weekend, taking full advantage of a stacked race lineup across the region. From ultras on the trails to festive holiday runs and a brand-new coastal event, December 6–7 delivered something for every type of athlete.
At Brazos Bend State Park, endurance athletes tackled the iconic Brazos Bend 100, known for its flat, fast trails and famous alligator sightings. Distances from the 100-mile ultra down to shorter options drew runners from across Texas and beyond, many chasing PRs on one of the state’s most runnable courses. Cool temperatures and clear skies made for ideal conditions, with volunteers lining the course to support athletes through the long day (and night) of racing.
Over in Sugar Land, holiday cheer powered participants through the Run Houston! Sugar Land Santa 5K & 10K, where hundreds hit the pavement in Santa hats, festive sweaters, and bright red race kits. The fast course and family-friendly atmosphere made it one of the weekend’s most spirited events.
Keeping the holiday theme going, the Gingerbread Lane 5K & 10K served up gingerbread décor and plenty of sweet treats, while the beloved A Charlie Brown Christmas 5K/10K blended nostalgia with a scenic run inspired by the classic holiday story.
Down on the coast, the Texas City Half Marathon, 10K, 5K & Family Mile made its inaugural debut, introducing runners to a new waterfront course that many hope becomes a winter staple.
The weekend also included several community favorites: the Ronald McDonald Run, the Jingle Bell Run, and the Tavola 5K, all of which brought out families, first-timers, and holiday-costumed runners ready to log festive miles for a good cause.
Rounding out the slate, the 13th Annual Texas 10 Conroe challenged athletes with its signature 10-mile and 5-mile distances, continuing a long-standing tradition of strong performances and community support.
From ultras to holiday miles, the Houston running community closed out the weekend with energy, celebration, and plenty of PRs.
