Houston Running August 29 – 30 Weekend Recap: Summer Sizzler Caps Off a Hot August

This recap is powered by BKV Energy.

The Summer Sizzler in Sugar Land was the only race on the Houston-area calendar this weekend, taking runners through 15K, 10K and 5K distances.

The race may have been called the Summer Sizzler, and ideally it would mark the end of the summer racing season. But anyone who has spent time running in Houston knows better. The heat is not going anywhere anytime soon.

The 15K featured strong performances in men and women’s. Robert Pareiss took the men’s 15K title in 1:06, followed by Curtis Braun and Carlos Abelino, both finishing in 1:08. On the women’s side, Marcy Wilkins won in 1:10, with Insiya Jafferji second in 1:20 and Lori Tanner third in 1:21.

In the men’s 10K, Matthew Parvus led the field in 41:48. Brandon Miller finished second in 42:18, while Richard Mcevoy-Kemp took third in 44:33. Tiara Smith won the women’s 10K in 45:19, followed by Camille Elmore in 55:21 and Paige Taylor in 1:01.

The men’s 5K was won by Evin Williams in 16:59, with Brady Ahlquist second in 18:28 and Patrick Haynes third in 20:13. Presley Aviles won the women’s 5K in 19:28, followed by Samantha Fryer in 20:23 and Claudia Valdez in 24:57.

With August officially wrapping up, September is about to bring a very different race calendar. If you’ve been missing having plenty of Houston-area races to choose from every weekend, you won’t have to wait long. September is packed with races.
