Houston runners had a packed weekend of racing, with multiple events across the region highlighted by the Bayou City Classic and the Women’s Quarter Marathon, which took place on International Women’s Day.
The Bayou City Classic served as the second race in the HARRA racing series, attracting a strong field for both the 5K and 10K distances. In the men’s 10K, Hayden Lightfoot took the win in 35:39, followed by Andrew Tomiczek and Jaime Lucio, who both crossed the line in 35:52 to round out the podium. On the women’s side, Lauren Stroud led the way with a 36:45 victory. Meredith Sorensen Parmley finished second in 37:44, while Elvira Hall placed third in 38:20.
The 5K races also featured competitive finishes. Aiden Faz won the men’s 5K in 16:22, ahead of Chris Carlson (17:33) and Tanner Moser (17:38). In the women’s race, Daniella Garza captured the win in 20:31, followed by Janie Flores in 21:57 and Elizabeth Pina in 23:14.
Across town, runners celebrated International Women’s Day at the Women’s Quarter Marathon, which also featured a men’s division and 5K. Ali Yazid won the men’s quarter marathon in 49:20, with Ramiro Gutierrez (1:04:39) and Carl Roberson (1:09:54) finishing second and third. The women’s race was tightly contested, with Susan Fults taking the win in 50:36, followed closely by Stephanie Anne Rodriguez (51:39) and Priscillia Pok (51:59).
In the accompanying 5K, Will Martinez won the men’s race in 20:50, while Alma Montoya led the women in 23:05.
The weekend also saw the inaugural Roast Run and Comedy Show, combining miles and laughs for runners. Other races around Houston included Poppy’s Run, the San Jacinto Texas Independence Run, and the Kolache Factory 5K/10K, giving Houston runners plenty of ways to log miles and celebrate the start of spring racing season.
