Houston’s race calendar stayed busy September 19–20, with runners lining up across the city for everything from road races and charity events to a morning at the ballpark. Among the weekend’s highlights were the Run Houston! University of Houston 5K & 10K, Space Cowboys 5K and Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk.
At the University of Houston, Ken Yasger led the men’s 10K in 37:10, followed by Josh Estrada in 37:44 and Carlos Villarreal in 37:59. Elizabeth Newton Hayes won the women’s 10K in 44:09, with Ava Guerra (45:20) and Andrea Salazar (46:03) rounding out the top three.
Michael Moreno took the men’s 5K in 16:06, followed by Osman Yuzguc in 17:22 and Cruz Prado in 17:58. The women’s 5K came down to a close finish, with Ella Ford taking first in 21:45, just three seconds ahead of Lucy Foltz (21:48). Diana Cousins finished third in 22:30.
Over at the Space Cowboys 5K, Richard Strachan led the men’s field in 17:24. Kikki Dilley finished second in 18:04, followed by Colton Nicosia in 18:13. Sydney Knepfel won the women’s race in 19:03, with Elana Bentz (19:27) and Anngela Caron (19:30) close behind.
The Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk also brought runners together for the weekend. RaShann Dudley finished first among the men in 19:57, followed by Angel Saravia (21:14) and JR Juarez (21:43). Ariella Baugh won the women’s race in 24:18, ahead of Maria Reed (26:55) and Amanda Van Wey (27:05).
The weekend’s other races included the ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk, The LifeGift 2nd Chance Run and the 16th Annual Woodforest Charity Run, giving Houston runners plenty of options to get out and race.
