Houston Running May 16-17 Weekend Recap: From Clear Lake to the Rice Track

Houston’s running community packed the calendar once again on May 16–17, with races stretching from memorial events and family-friendly 5Ks to competitive road racing and ruck divisions. The busy weekend also included the LP Run, marking the final event of the HARRA Spring Series and closing out another strong season of local racing.

At Operation Ruck the Bayou, athletes tackled both traditional running and ruck divisions, highlighting the event’s unique military-inspired atmosphere. Zach Snider led the men’s 10K in 39:48, while Ina Rodriguez claimed the women’s 10K title in 49:38 and later doubled back to win the women’s 5K ruck division in 36:36. Ashley Swift topped the women’s 10K ruck in 53:57, and Joffre Cross earned the men’s 10K ruck victory with a 58:15 finish. In the 5K races, Derek Pontois captured the men’s title in 20:34 while Tiphaine Alsac won the women’s race in 24:46.

Fast times were the story at The Wiener Run 5K & 10K, where Adrian Vela delivered one of the weekend’s standout performances, winning the men’s 10K in an impressive 30:33. Stephanie Navarro paced the women’s 10K in 34:47, while JP Machemehl and Katie Jones earned 5K victories in 17:45 and 19:43, respectively.

The Santa Fe Ten Memorial Run combined competition with remembrance as runners gathered to honor the community. Weston Caceres led the men’s 5K in 18:55, and Addy Arriaga claimed the women’s crown in 23:33.

Meanwhile, Run Houston! Clear Lake showcased one of the deepest fields of the weekend. Richard Powell won the men’s 10K in 34:18, narrowly ahead of CJ Jackson, while Bianca Alexander captured the women’s 10K in 37:40. The 5K races were equally competitive, with Cody Manuel winning the men’s race in 17:29 and Yumileydis Mestre Heredia taking the women’s title in a swift 17:55.
