Summer racing looked a little different this weekend. While the race calendar wasn’t as crowded as the first weekend of July, the events that did take place were close to the coast, but still a fun time!

The Daily News Press Run returned to Texas City, giving runners a chance to race along the island in both 5K and 10K distances. In the men’s 10K, Clayton Collins. claimed the overall win in 44:25, followed by Tony Cervantes (51:07) and Joseh Christoffersen (53:05). Lynell Ann Addis led the women’s 10K field in 1:00.

The men’s 5K was won by Kacson Hawkins in 21:17, with Bayley Pena (26:30) and Sebastian Nolasco (28:28) rounding out the podium. On the women’s side, Maddilyn Scott crossed the finish line first in 24:35, followed by Zoey Scott (21:56) and Penny Scott (26:04). Looks like speed runs in the Scott family!

Saturday also brought one of Houston’s fastest summer 5k’s, the Lunar Landing 5K. Jonathan Robbins earned the men’s victory in a blazing 15:48, while Pete Braen took top masters honors in 17:02. Lauren Stroud won the women’s race in 17:50, with masters honors going to Meredith Dutton in 22:17. Other top finishers included Chris Robbins, Peter Lawrence, Julie Pennington, and Jadyn Vang.

Beyond the traditional race scene, teams spent the weekend tackling the Coastal Plains Relay, a 75-mile relay that begins in Richmond and finishes at Surfside Beach. We don’t have the official results, but it looks like the Bad Boy Boyz Run Club took first place for the men’s division.
