Houston’s running community came alive this past weekend with several major races across the city and beyond. From neighborhood 5Ks to half marathons and even a strong showing at the Chicago Marathon, local runners proved once again that fall racing season is in full swing.
Heights Fun Run – Voted Houston’s Most Fun Fall Race
The Heights Fun Run brought energy and speed to one of Houston’s most beloved running neighborhoods. In the men’s 10K, Wesley Wright crossed the finish line first in an impressive 35:01, followed by Nicholas Goura (36:25) and Wasiu Ahmed (38:04). On the women’s side, Jordan Reeves claimed the top spot with a strong 43:53. She was closely followed by Amy Ngo (45:03) and Emily LaVoy (45:43), rounding out the podium.
The 5K race was just as competitive. David Alber blazed through the course to win in 16:26, narrowly edging out Paolo Guarano (16:28) and Scott Moore (16:58). For the women, Claire Barrie took the win with a speedy 19:34, followed closely by Kelly Fitzpatrick (19:46) and Victoria Nolan (20:15). The Heights event once again showcased the deep local talent and community spirit that defines Houston’s running scene.
Memorial Hermann 10 for Texas: A Strong Showing in The Woodlands
Up north, runners gathered for the Memorial Hermann 10 for Texas in The Woodlands, a staple of the fall race calendar. In the men’s division, Benjamin Black set the pace early and never looked back, finishing first in 53:32.921. David Chambers followed in 57:33.957, with Ryan Tresaugue close behind at 57:57.649. On the women’s side, Marina Smit claimed victory with a 1:06:25 finish, trailed by Samantha McClellan (1:07:35) and Kelly Swanson (1:07:53). The race drew a large crowd and provided perfect early-morning conditions for runners and spectators alike.
Sugar Land Half Marathon: Speed Meets Endurance
According to official results on the Sugar Land Half website, Valentino Julien took the top spot in the men’s race with a time of 1:13:01. He was followed by Brett Doyle (1:21:12) and Andrew Pozza (1:23:10). On the women’s side, Angela Caron led the way with a time of 1:28:21, just ahead of Lauren Kylberg (1:28:39) and Isabel Woelfel (1:36:55). The Sugar Land course offered a flat and fast route that gave runners an excellent opportunity to test their fall fitness.
Houstonians Shine at the Chicago Marathon
Meanwhile, more than 200 runners from the Houston area made their mark on the world stage at the 2025 Chicago Marathon. Although this year was warmer than usual, the fast course offered ideal marathon conditions, and local athletes represented the city with pride, many earning personal bests and Boston qualifying times.
Running for a Cause
The weekend also featured several meaningful charity events, including the Child Advocates Superhero Run, Hacemos Houston 5K, and the Bridgeland Community Run/Walk for Heroes 2025. Each event gave runners a chance to support important local causes while enjoying the camaraderie and fitness that unite the Houston running scene.
