If you’re looking for Houston running events in April, you’ll find no shortage of options, especially during the busy weekend of April 11–12, which alone features 11 different races across the region.
Leading the charge is the Brazos Bend 50, a must-do for trail and ultra enthusiasts. Known for its scenic (and sometimes swampy) terrain, this race offers a Test of endurance while showcasing one of the most unique running environments near Houston. Plus, you’re almost guaranteed to see a few alligators while you’re running!
For something on the lighter, more festive side, the Running with My Peeps 10K/5K continues to be one of the most popular themed races of the season. Although it’s currently on a waiting list, it’s worth noting for its creative Easter theme, strong community turnout, and fun-first atmosphere that draws runners of all speeds.
April is also prime time for fast 5Ks, and two races stand out as some of the most competitive in the city. The Bellaire Trolley Run consistently attracts a deep field of elite and local talent, making it one of the fastest and most competitive 5Ks in Houston. Similarly, the Art Car Run delivers both speed and festivities. Both of these races made our list for the fastest 5ks in the spring.
For runners building toward longer distances, there are numerous half marathons throughout the month. The Space City Half Marathon in particular offers a great opportunity to test fitness.
Beyond these highlights, April is filled with numerous charity runs supporting a wide range of causes. These events are perfect for runners who want to stay active while giving back to the community, reinforcing the spirit that makes Houston’s running scene so special.
With everything from ultras to themed fun runs to elite-level 5Ks, April proves there’s truly no shortage of Houston races to choose from. To find your next race, visit the Houston Runner Race Calendar
