July is packed with opportunities to race across the Houston area, with one of the busiest holiday weekends of the year leading the way. Whether you’re chasing a personal best, looking for a family-friendly fun run, or simply want to celebrate Independence Day on the move, there are plenty of Houston running races in July to choose from.
The action begins on July 2 with the Firecracker 5K in The Woodlands, a perfect way to kick off the holiday weekend before the biggest slate of races arrives on the Fourth of July.
July 4 offers something for every runner. Popular events include the 52nd Lake Jackson Firecracker 4, the sold out America Mile Challenge in Baytown, Firecracker Trek Tomball, Houston Fourth Fest in Vintage Park, the Kingwood TX 4th of July Freedom Run, Run Wild 5K & Kids Run in Uptown, and the Texas Bud Heat Wave in Mont Belvieu. With races taking place across the Houston region, runners have no shortage of ways to celebrate Independence Day before the fireworks begin.
The holiday racing continues on July 5 with the Treat Trot in Cypress, giving runners another chance to earn a finisher medal while keeping the festive weekend going.
Summer racing doesn’t slow down after the Fourth. The Popsicle Dash on July 11 marks the second event in the popular Summer Dash Series, bringing another fun morning of fast racing and frozen treats.
Relay runners can look forward to the Coastal Plains Relay from July 17-19, while those looking for a unique themed event can sign up for the Christmas in July 5K & 10K in Oak Forest, benefiting The Salvation Army.
