March is one of the busiest months on the Houston running calendar. From established road races to charity events and national competitions, there are options for every distance and experience level.
The Bayou City Classic is a key event on the Houston Area Road Runners Association Spring Series schedule. The race offers a 10K and 5K and draws competitive runners as well as those working toward series points. It remains one of the longest running events in the city and is a consistent benchmark race each spring.
Poppy’s Run for Life is one of the top three charity runs of the spring. The event supports suicide prevention and mental health awareness. Distances typically include a 5K, 10K, and family-friendly options, making it accessible for both competitive runners and community participants.
The Run Houston! H-Town Half Marathon also takes place in March and includes a half marathon, 10K, and 5K. It is part of the Run Houston! Race Series and attracts runners preparing for longer spring races. The Kolache Run is another March favorite, featuring a timed 10k, 5K and kids dash followed by kolaches and a great medal, making it one of the more relaxed and social races on the Houston calendar.
Several St. Patrick’s Day themed races are scheduled throughout the Houston area in March. These events range from 5Ks to longer distances and provide additional opportunities for early spring racing.
Outside the city, the Blue Bell Fun Run in Brenham offers a popular race experience tied to the Blue Bell Creameries campus.
To close the month, endurance athletes will compete at IRONMAN 70.3 Texas on March 29 and HYROX Houston on March 29. Both events bring national level competition to the Houston area.
These are only just a few of the great races that are going to be happening in March. To see a full running calendar, visit out Houston Running Race Calendar to find the best one for you.
