Ice cream races and trail blazing took place this weekend all over the region. Many runners headed west to take on the Blue Bell Fun Run and the San Felipe Shootout. Here is your weekly race recap for March 21 – 22.
The Blue Bell Fun Run delivered hilly miles across multiple distances, with Matt Teodori leading the men’s half marathon in 1:18:15, followed closely by Todd Banning (1:19:26) and Taylor Richardson (1:20:20). On the women’s side, Carley Flanders took the win in 1:31:43, edging Mackinly Kifer (1:31:58) and Hope Smith (1:34:52). The 10K races were just as competitive, with Brandson Nguyen winning the men’s race in 33:32 ahead of Jayson Brunette (34:10) and Gustavo Roman Jr. (34:55), while Lauren Frankoff impressed with a 34:19 victory in the women’s field, followed by Helena Rodriguez (35:33).
Trail runners headed west for the San Felipe Shootout, a unique multi-distance trail event hosted by Trail Racing Over Texas that challenges runners to compete across a 5K, 10K, and half marathon over the course of the event. In the men’s Triple Shootout, Carlos Vences Jr. put together a winning series (22:52, 47:03, 1:49:39) to secure the overall, while Suzy Seeley led the women’s side with strong performances across all distances. Individual races also saw strong efforts, including Guillaume Barnier winning the men’s half marathon (1:39:18) and Sung In Kim-Vences taking the women’s title (1:50:37). Parker Burdine stood out with wins in both the 5K (22:23) and 10K (44:08).
At the Rodeo Stampede on Sunday (March 22), runners ran a range of distances with a run rodeo theme. Satoshi Nomoto claimed the men’s half marathon title in 1:27:43, with Geovani Irineo (1:32:33) and Noah Goerlich (1:34:30) rounding out the podium. Gina Goodgame led the women’s half marathon in 1:31:02, followed by Daniela Fuentes (1:44:32) and Elena Sanchez (1:45:39). In the quarter marathon, Jason Semien (44:41) and Charlotte Webster (50:01) took top honors. The 5K saw a tight men’s finish with Isaac Robertson (22:04) just ahead of Patrick Haynes (22:06), while Rayne Dye led the women’s race in 22:02. Another competitive 5K field featured Landson Deas (16:37) and Brynlee Weston (20:30) taking wins in their respective divisions.
The weekend also featured several impactful community-driven events, including In Her Shoes: WINGS 5K Walk/Run, the 6th Annual Silver Heart Care Charity Run, and Miles for Migraine – Houston, all bringing runners together in support of meaningful causes and reinforcing the strong connection between Houston’s running scene and local philanthropy.
