After a six-year hiatus, one of Houston’s most memorable summer running events is making a comeback. The Hot Undies Run, hosted by BON Running Club, returns on Saturday, July 11, bringing runners together for a morning of fun, community, and fundraising in support of the Women’s Health Research & Action Center (WHRAC).
The event, known for its fun atmosphere and over-the-top costumes, was held annually from 2009 through 2019 before being paused because of the pandemic. Now, BON Running Club is ready to relaunch a loved Houston tradition.
“We used to hold this event yearly from 2009 until 2019,” said BON Running Club President Keith Newton. “In 2020 it was not held due to the pandemic and we have not held it since. This year we are relaunching.”
While the event’s name might grab your attention, its mission has always been about giving back. Originally created as a fundraiser for Undies for Everyone, the Hot Undies Run has partnered with different charitable organizations over the years, all with the same goal of supporting often overlooked needs within the community. This year’s beneficiary, WHRAC, focuses on advancing women’s health through research, education, and community outreach.
Participants can also expect plenty of entertainment along the way. “It can be a bit cheeky (literally),” Newton said. “Some of our costumes from runners and walkers have been quite unique over the years. It’s always a fun event!”

The Hot Undies Run isn’t about setting personal records. Instead, it’s about embracing the fun side of running while supporting a worthwhile cause. Participants are encouraged to wear creative costumes or themed attire, although running in underwear is entirely optional. The event also features raffles, door prizes, a costume contest, and a few surprises throughout the afternoon.
“A fun time!” Newton said when asked what participants should expect. “We will have raffles, door prizes, a costume contest, and a few other surprises. Donations to our charity partner are greatly encouraged as well.”
The event’s biggest success isn’t measured by finish times. “I hope runners leave with an appreciation for helping raise funds through donations to our charity partner and for helping groups and individuals within and outside our running community in underserved areas,” he said. “Most importantly I hope that everyone has ‘fun for a cause.'”
The return of the Hot Undies Run also highlights the longevity of BON Running Club itself.
“BON has been a great social running group for almost 18 years,” Newton said. “We were formed in 2008 and hope to still be relevant in another 10 or even 20 years.”
Whether you’re looking for a unique summer event, a chance to support a meaningful cause, or an excuse to wear your funniest running outfit, the Hot Undies Run promises a morning that’s unlike anything else on the Houston running calendar.
